475 ml lukewarm water
60 g white sugar
1 (7g) package active dry yeast
840 g all-purpose flour
10 g salt
710 ml oil for frying
Step 1
In a small bowl, mix lukewarm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow the mixture to stand until the yeast softens and bubbles slightly, approximately 5 minutes.
Step 2
Sift together flour and salt in a large bowl.
Step 3
Pour the yeast mixture over the flour mixture and knead until the dough is smooth and elastic, which should take about 5-7 minutes. Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and let the dough rise until it has doubled in volume, approximately 45 minutes.
Step 4
Pinch off a piece of dough about the size of a tennis ball and roll it until smooth. Flatten the ball of dough until it is palm-sized and set it aside on a floured work surface. Repeat with the remaining dough.
Step 5
Heat the oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 175 degrees Celsius.
Step 6
Fry 2-3 pieces at a time in the hot oil until they turn golden brown, which should take about 3 minutes per side. Drain the fried dough on paper towels.
