1 small head red cabbage, shredded
1 apple, cored and diced
3 teaspoons salt, divided
1 tablespoon lemon juice
120 ml water
1 tablespoon butter
1 small onion, chopped
0.125 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon wine vinegar
450 g kielbasa sausage, cut into 2.5 cm pieces
Step 1
In a large pot, combine shredded red cabbage, diced apple, 2 teaspoons of salt, lemon juice, and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 2
In a skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Sauté the chopped onion until golden. Add the sautéed onion to the cabbage mixture along with 1 teaspoon of salt, black pepper, vinegar, and sausage. Cook covered until the sausage is heated through, about 20 to 30 minutes.
Step 3
Spoon the braised red cabbage onto a heated platter and top with the sausage to serve.
