Ingredients

4 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tbsp cornstarch
2 tsp kosher salt
1 1/2 cups salted butter, softened
1 1/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs, at room temperature
4 tsp vanilla extract
12 oz milk chocolate chips (e.g., Guittard® Milk Chocolate Chips)
flaky sea salt for topping (optional)

Directions

1

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, cornstarch, and kosher salt; set aside.

2

Using a stand mixer with paddle attachment, beat butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time followed by vanilla. Gradually incorporate dry ingredients, then stir in chocolate chips.

3

Scoop dough into 1/2 cup measures and form into balls. Refrigerate for 1 hour or freeze for 25-30 minutes.

4

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

5

Divide dough balls in half, tear one half and place it on top of the other with jagged side up. Gently press together without smoothing the top. Place cookies on prepared sheets with space between them.

6

Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden around edges and almost set in center. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired. Cool completely on baking sheet.
