Ingredients

2.5 cups all-purpose flour
0.75 tsp salt
0.5 tsp baking soda
1.5 cups white sugar
0.5 cup butter, softened
0.5 cup shortening
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 egg
2 tbsp milk
1 tbsp white sugar (or as desired for sprinkling)

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

In a bowl, sift together flour, salt, and baking soda. In another bowl, beat 1.5 cups sugar, butter, shortening, and vanilla extract until well combined. Add egg and beat until creamy. Mix the sugar mixture into the flour mixture until smooth, followed by milk.

Using a teaspoon, drop dough mounds onto a baking sheet. Flatten each with the bottom of a water glass. Sprinkle the tops of cookies generously with extra sugar.
