In a bowl, sift together flour, salt, and baking soda. In another bowl, beat 1.5 cups sugar, butter, shortening, and vanilla extract until well combined. Add egg and beat until creamy. Mix the sugar mixture into the flour mixture until smooth, followed by milk.
