Ingredients

1 egg
2 cups buttermilk
2 tbsp grill seasoning (e.g., McCormick Montreal Steak Seasoning)
0.5 cup all-purpose flour
1.5 lbs boneless beef sirloin steak, cut into 2 1/2 x 1/4 in strips
2.5 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp garlic powder
salt and pepper to taste
3 cups canola oil for deep frying

Directions

1

In a large bowl, whisk together the egg, buttermilk, grill seasoning, and 1/2 cup of flour until smooth. Toss in the beef strips to coat well; cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to marinate.

2

In another large bowl, mix 2.5 cups flour, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Remove the beef strips from the buttermilk mixture, letting excess drip off. Dredge in the seasoned flour and place on a baking sheet. Freeze for 1 hour to overnight.

3

Preheat oil to 370°F (185°C) in a deep fryer or cast iron skillet.

4

Fry frozen steak pieces, a few at a time, until golden brown (about 5 minutes), ensuring they do not overcrowd the oil nor thaw before frying. Drain on paper towels.
