Ingredients

4 (8 oz) skinless, boneless chicken breasts
2 tsp kosher salt
1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
2 tbsp olive oil
1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce (such as Rao's®)
8 oz low-moisture, part-skim mozzarella cheese, shredded (about 2 cups)
1/4 cup torn fresh basil leaves
Cooked pasta, for serving (optional)

Directions

1

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) with racks in upper and lower third positions.

2

Season both sides of chicken with salt and Italian seasoning. Heat oil in a deep, large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Cook chicken until golden brown on both sides, 3 to 4 minutes per side.

3

Pour marinara sauce over chicken; sprinkle with mozzarella. Cover with aluminum foil.

4

Bake on the lower third rack in the preheated oven until cheese is melted and sauce bubbles at edges, 20 to 25 minutes. Check chicken's internal temperature reaches 74°C (165°F) using a thermometer.

5

Remove skillet from oven; remove foil. Set oven to broil. Return skillet to upper third rack and broil until cheese is lightly browned in spots, about 2 minutes.

6

Garnish with fresh basil and serve with pasta (optional).
