Ingredients

18 cups thinly sliced apples
3 tablespoons lemon juice
4.5 cups water
2 cups white sugar
1 cup cornstarch
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Gather all ingredients.

Place apples in a large bowl and toss with lemon juice. Set aside.

In a Dutch oven, heat water over medium heat. In a separate bowl, mix sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg; add to the water, stir well, and bring to a boil. Boil for 2 minutes while continuously stirring.

Add apples and return to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer until apples are tender (6 to 8 minutes). Allow to cool for 30 minutes.

Ladle the filling into 5 freezer-safe containers, leaving half an inch of headspace. Cool at room temperature no longer than 1.5 hours before sealing and freezing. Can be stored for up to 12 months.
