Discover the traditional Irish dessert, Barmbrack, a moist cake filled with dried mixed fruit soaked in tea. It's perfect for Halloween or any time of year!
Soak the dried fruit in hot tea for at least 2 hours or overnight.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease a round 9-inch cake pan or 9x5-inch loaf pan.
In a bowl, mix the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and baking soda together. Set aside.
In another large bowl, lightly beat the egg. Add in the sugar, marmalade, orange zest, and tea-soaked fruit. Mix until well combined.
Gently fold the flour mixture into the wet ingredients until just combined. Pour this batter into your prepared pan.
Bake for about 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool in the pan for 2 hours before removing it to a wire rack to cool to room temperature.
Before serving, press your choice of decorative objects into the bottom of the cake.
