Ingredients

1.5 kg frozen purple hull peas
water as needed
8 oz fresh okra
4 oz bacon, diced
1 tbsp white sugar
0.125 tsp baking soda
salt and pepper to taste

Prepare all ingredients.

In a large pot, combine the purple hull peas with enough cold water to cover them. Bring to a boil over high heat.

Add okra and let it boil for 2 minutes, stirring twice.

Reduce heat to medium-low, then add bacon, sugar, baking soda, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
